Professional Development Modules

OVERVIEW 

 

Welcome to the Teaching Iowa History professional development modules. Below you will find links to five modules that include videos, activities, and resources presenting a variety of ways to use and engage with Teaching Iowa History. We hope these modules guide and assist you as you explore and use the resources in your teaching.

GOALS

    

   Teaching Iowa History professional development modules serve to:
 

  1. Describe the goals of the collaborative project partnership and development process.
  2. Illustrate the value of the primary sources found in Iowa museums and increase awareness of Iowa’s rich history.
  3. Demonstrate how to access Teaching Iowa History resources including lesson plans, the primary source database, and instructional resources.
  4. Present inquiry-based learning strategies as a way to explore historical content while fulfilling the Iowa social studies standards.
  5. Explain the process for contributing resources to the project and for providing feedback through a short survey.

MODULES

Each of the modules below presents content including videos, activities, readings, and resources pertaining to Teaching Iowa History.  These modules can be completed in order or on an individual basis. 

As you complete the modules feel free to make notes with any ideas or questions you have about the project. We encourage you to share your thoughts via the Teaching Iowa History feedback survey linked at the bottom of this page.
