This Laver cup was brought from Konvo, Russia during the 1850s by the grandparents of Dr. Harry Elmets of Des Moines, Iowa. Laver cups such as this one are used in two Jewish handwashing rituals: 1. When a person wakes from their sleep and 2. Before eating bread. Content can be used with the following standards: 1st grade SS 1.23 Cultural Makeup and 3rd grade SS 3.27 Immigration and Migration in a lesson on different religions and their customs and traditions.
