This jacket was issued to Polish native Jacob Szneler when he was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Szneler and his future wife were imprisoned at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in northern Germany. They were saved when British soldiers liberated the camp in 1945. Five years later, the Szneler's settled in Des Moines as refugees sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines.
