Belgian ten franc note. Belonged to father of donor, William Wallace Henderson, who served in WWII. He owned Henderson's furniture in downtown Cedar Falls and married Wilma Galloway. They had two daughters JoAnn (the donor) and Martha Henderson. Wally Henderson also owned half of the Cedarloo center/building on University Ave. where Goodwill, Pizza Ranch, and the bicycle store are located. He was a long time resident of Cedar Falls and loved the community. According to his grandson, Aaron DeYoung, Wallace Henderson did not share his memories of WWII or his time during battle. They were memories he did not want to re-live. All he ever told his grandson was that a German shell exploded behind him sending shrapnel in his back and into his stomach/lower intestines. Henderson may have served with the First United States Army; if so, his injuries may have occurred during the Battle of the Bulge in mid-December, 1944. Otherwise, Henderson may have been sent to the Ardennes to recuperate as it was a peaceful territory from September to December, 1944.
