As the Civil War endured, many soldiers from Marion, Iowa joined the ranks to fight. A common weapon used was a bayonet that could be attached to the end of a rifle. While rarely actually used, the bayonet was seen more as a scare tactic against the enemy as it could easily be seen from a distance.
