Near the end of the 19th Century, the Tramp Bros. Brickyard near Audubon, Iowa, served as one of Audubon County's leading industries. The brickyard manufactured bricks, drain tile, hollow building blocks and many other products that were in demand at that time. The company used clay taken from a hill in the northwest corner of Audubon and transported it by rail in cars pulled by horses to the brickyard's kilns. The brickyard's owner, Charles Tramp, operated it until 1921.
