Barbara Heinemann Landmann, a member of the Pietist group The Community of True Inspiration, used this trunk when she immigrated to the United States in the 1840s. Landmann first settled in the Community's Ebenezer Colonies founded in New York. While in New York, Landmann served as a Werkzeug, which was a religious leader. In 1856, Landmann moved with the Community to the newly formed Amana Colonies in Iowa. She passed away in 1883. Content can be used with the following standards: 3rd grade SS 3.26 Immigration and Migration in a lesson on the impact of immigrants on the state and the organizations/establishments they have created.
