These "minie balls" were used during the Civil War. The minie balls were newer versions of traditional musket balls and were designed to shoot further and straighter. Many Iowans, including men from Dallas County, served in the Union military during this war. Men from Dallas County alone served in over nine different infantry and calvary units.
