This photograph of the Hayfield, Iowa, bank was taken after it was robbed in either 1895 or 1899. The bank's windows were blown out by an explosion of nitroglycerine, which was caused when a passerby fired their gun into the bank in an attempt to stop the robbers and hit the nitroglycerine, which the robbers had used to break into the bank's safe.
