Crinoids belong the phylum Echinodermata family. This is the same family star fish and sand dollars belong to, but crinoids are unique with their flower-like shape. Some are considered the sea lilies of the ocean floor due to the root-like parts that can grow to be meters long. Another name for crinoids are "feather stars." Feather Stars can move around due to small hook-like structures called cirri. Crinoids are the oldest known fossils, the earliest being from the Ordovician Period.
