Iron leg shackles possibly worn by a slave who escaped to Iowa. Shackles were commonly used as a form of restraint in an attempt to prevent slaves from running away. Content can be used with the following standards: 3rd Grade SS 3.28 Cultural Contributions and 5th grade SS 5.26 Civil Rights. Item can be used in a lesson on slaves in accompany with the other slavery items in relations.
