2018.009.005 [Poster]

This wanted poster provided information about the famed criminal couple Bonnie and Clyde. In July 1933, the couple, along with their gang, the Barrow Gang, took shelter near Dexter, Iowa after a shootout in Missouri. Buck Barrow had been shot and received a serious head wound and was close to death. Someone from Dexter found bloody bandages and alerted authorities, who began to suspect the campers were indeed the Barrow Gang. A posse surrounded the gang early July 24, 1933. Clyde's older brother, Marvin who often went by his nickname Buck, and his wife Blanche were captured. Buck later passed at Kings Daughter Hospital in Perry, Iowa. Bonnie, Clyde, and teenager W. D. Jones escaped north where they hiked to the Vallee Feller farm, where the Feller son, Marvelle (age 18) had to show Clyde how to shift gears in the car they stole. This poster is dated May 21, 1934, which was ten months after Bonnie and Clyde escaped from Dexter, and just two days before they were killed in Louisiana.
