In late 1952, Marilyn (Lawson) Bode of Dexter, Iowa, contracted polio and was admitted into Raymond Blank Memorial Hospital in Des Moines. Over the next few months, she underwent treatment and physical therapy. In this children's book, "My Mean Mom," Bode shared her experiences during this time.
