This knife was used by Chaim Rabinovitz, who was a Schochet in Waterloo, Iowa between 1905 and 1906. Rabinovitz brought the knife to Iowa from Vilkie, Lithuania, where he also served as a Schochet. A Schochet is a person that is certified by a Rabbi or a Jewish Court to slaughter animals for food as prescribed by Jewish law.
