This card was made in France of embroidered white fabric within a cardstock base. The front shows a village in winter and "Merry Xmas" above a six-pointed star composed of the French, British, and U. S. flags. The back reads "The paper said the 88th Div. was due to sail some time in Dec. & I'm ready to sail tomorrow'' and "This is a 20F piece of German Money that I traded from an Allied prisoner who was going thru Lucey." Enclosed within the card is a piece of German paper currency, a 20 pfennig note. This card was originally owned by the donor's father, John H. Evely, who served in the U. S. Army during World War I. The piece of currency was found inside the postcard. It was the currency used in German prisoner-of-war camps and was only good for use there.
