This note, printed for use in the Confederate state of Virginia has the image of a woman, possibly a milk maid, sitting on a dead tree with a smoke spewing factory in the background. Along with this image is the portrait of a man, Virginia governor John Letcher. According to the date on the bill, it was printed during the Confederacies fourth authorization series of notes. The printing of notes by the Confederacy along with its individual states would lead to a serious issue with interstate trade as the value of a Virginia bill was not equal to that of a Kentucky bill. This was a similar problem faced by the thirteen original colonies under the articles of the confederation during their enforcement.
