The name ''REO'' comes from the initials of the manufacturer, Ransom E. Olds. The car belonged to Fred Walther, an older, bachelor farmer who lived north of Waterloo and who was a member of the local Antique Car Club. Fred Walther traded the car for a new pick-up.
