The Lion's Club, founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones is a non-political organization. It's motto "We Serve" indicates the nature of the club, to aid others through various projects. The club has been and is involved with sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, and other public issues. The club has been in Cedar Falls since 1924, established by A.A. Rhonalt. Having a local community focus, the club's involvement in community activities such as soap car building and racing, is to be expected. This particular car, the "Daily Record" was entered by the Lions Club in one of these races in 1954.
