This photograph of Schafer's filling station located in Mount Ayr, Iowa, was taken in 1979. The station was built in 1940 by Mount Ayr resident Sada Dowling. Day Shafer bought the station in 1944. Shafer later sold the business to his son-in-law, John Denhart, in the 1950s. The station closed in 1981 after John Denhart retired and was torn down the following year.
