The Ringgold County Hospital located in Mount Ayr, Iowa, opened in 1951 and employed 21 doctors, nurses, aides, and office workers. An addition to the hospital was built in 1971. In 1984, the hospital opened the Harold Hughes Chemical Dependency Unit. The units' name changed to the Ringgold County Recovery Center in 1989. The unit was discontinued in 1999. The Ringgold County Hospital closed in December of 2009. It was later torn down in 2016.
