St. John's Catholic Church in Diagonal, Iowa, was built and dedicated between 1909 and 1910. Father M. J. Culhane arrived at the church in 1922 and served in Diagonal until the church closed in 1970. Father Culhane later served at the Catholic churches in Mount Ayr and Maloy until he retired in 1971.
