This photograph shows Dr. Thomas Irven Moffett at the Cross Service Station in Ames, Iowa, around 1950. Moffett was born February 9, 1893 in Harrison County, Missouri, and attended schools in Harrison County and in Ringgold County, Iowa. After serving in World War I, Moffett married Sylva Ann Schneider on August 6, 1928, and they moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa, soon after. A newspaper advertisement (January 17, 1929 Record-News) placed Dr. Moffett's office on the second floor of the Bement building at 114 W. Madison, Mount Ayr. He was still there in February 1933 when fire gutted the furniture store on the building's ground floor. Moffett later built a new office in another location. Moffett was very instrumental in getting the Ringgold County Hospital built in 1950-51. He and his wife also had the distinction of being the first Mount Ayr residents to have a television set in their home. Moffett passed away on November 11, 1954 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
