This photograph, taken around 1899, shows the south side of 4th Street in Sioux City, Iowa. Both horse-drawn wagons and electric trolleys are visible in the photograph, which reflects the development of modern transportation. In 1904, every building in this photograph was destroyed in a massive fire. These businesses rebuilt, and the street remained Sioux City's main business avenue until the 1960s.
