This photograph shows a dorm room at Grand View College in 1904. Grand View was one of two institutions for higher education that Danish Americans founded in the late 1800s. The first was Trinity Seminary, founded in Blair, Nebraska, in 1886, which evolved into Dana College by the end of the nineteenth century. It served the higher education needs of the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. In Des Moines, Iowa, the Danish Lutheran Church established Grand View College in 1896. Both schools attracted support and students from Danish-American communities throughout the country. For over a century, Dana and Grand View maintained the cultural and theological traditions of their founders.
