In 1900, the town of Kanawha, Iowa, received its first school building. The building was moved into town from the country by a large team of oxen. This photograph shows the oxen as they moved the school building. While the building's new location helped make attending school convenient for many students, it could not house all of Kanawha's students due to its size. This forced half of Kanawha's students to attend school in a building located one mile north of town.
