This dress was donated to the Shelby County Historical Society in 2008 by Mary Louise Kraschel, wife of Frederick Kraschel, oldest son of Agnes Kraschel and Governor Kraschel. The dress was worn in 1937 by Mrs. Agnes Kraschel to the inaugural ball celebrating Governor Kraschel's inauguration as governor of the state of Iowa. The gown is white with intricate bead work and fits down to the waist before flaring out. This gown is on display at the Shelby County Historical Society. Agnes Kraschel's dress is significant because it is connected to an important figure in Iowa governmental history. It can also be used to talk about the distribution of wealth during the Great Depression. Content can be used with the following standards: 8th grade SS 8.25 Iowa Government and SS-Econ. 9-12.24 Iowa Impact Upon Economy in a lesson on distribution of wealth in the Great Depression and Governor Kraschel.
