Upon the discovery of the mineral springs by crews drilling for new coal deposits, the mineral water grew in popularity. It attracted visitors from all across the country. People believed the spring waters could cure all aliments and wanted to bath in the springs hoping to be cured. This led to the development of the hotel industry in Colfax. In 1884, the Hotel Colfax was built and offered a bath house using the mineral springs water. The mineral water was also bottled and distributed by the Colfax Mineral Water Company and several other bottling works companies in Colfax. Pictured above is a jug with the Fry Hotel logo on it. Hotels around Colfax also sold mineral water by the jug for visitors to buy and continue medicinal use at their home.
