The Close-To-Nature Company was created in 1908 but was not incorporated under Iowa laws until 1910. The company was set up to do general manufacturing. The company was established and ran by W.H. Monroe and Paul Monroe. Even though this company was established on the grounds of "general manufacturing," the company mostly made W.H. Monroe's inventions. The company made "portable buildings of all kinds": canvas houses, wooden cottages, bunk houses, refreshment booths, tourist tents, camp tents, tourist supplies, and numerous other necessities needed for camping or outdoor events.
