This is the first Official coin of the United States. It is known as the "Fugio Coin" because of the inscription, and as the "Franklin" because the sundial design and the image of 13 linked rings were created by Benjamin Franklin. It was decided by the Continental Congress of the Confederation that the coins would be denominated as "cents," which was based on one one-hundredth of a Spanish milled dollar. It was minted only in 1787. For any use other than instructional resources, please check with the organization that owns this item regarding copyright restrictions.
