This is a photograph of of Kenneth Warren Carter from Dexter, Iowa. Due to complications from polio, Carter was placed in an iron lung in Raymond Blank Memorial Hospital in Des Moines. In 1952, Carter's neighbor, Marilyn (Lawson) Bode, who was also in the hospital for polio, visited Carter. Carter passed away in the iron lung in early 1953.
