This photograph of Ringgold County's first brick courthouse was taken around 1912. The courthouse was built in Mount Ayr between 1883 and 1884. The bell tower was located on the east side of the courthouse and was 102 feet tall. The tower also served as a fire alarm and curfew bell. Due to foundation settling and inferior building products, the courthouse was condemned in 1921 and demolished in 1922.
