Mount Ayr's Clinton Motel was built in 1950 by Mabel McCullough. The motel was made out of dismantled Army barracks from Colorado. McCullough owned a trucking outfit and used her trucks to haul the barracks from Colorado to Mount Ayr. McCullough named the motel after her adopted son, Clinton. The 24-room motel closed in 2005. It was dismantled a year later. Content can be used with the following standards: SS-Econ. 9-12.24 Iowa Impact Upon Economy in a lesson town expansion and businesses of the mid-1900s.
