Mount Ayr's second brick high school was built in 1895. The school had no gymnasium, electricity or running water. A new school building, which had all of these things, opened in 1913. The older brick building was torn down in 1912. Content can be used with the following standards: 3rd grade SS 3.28 Cultural Contributions in a lesson on town expansion in the early 1900s.
