This photograph shows the east side of the townsquare in Redding, Iowa. The Union Savings Bank located on the street corner was created in 1908 when two banks, the Peoples Bank and the Redding Bank, merged together. In 1920, a group of robbers entered the bank at night and broke into its vault. The bank was later destroyed by a fire in 1923, and another business took its place. The Union Savings Bank closed in 1930 due to the effects of the stock market crash of 1929.
