The Audubon girls' basketball team won four successive Girls State Basketball crowns in 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1924. Audubon defeated Ottumwa in 1921, Iowa Falls in 1922, Mallard in 1923, and Iowa Falls again in 1924. This photograph shows the 1924 team, which was the last championship team during this period. Superintendent M.M.McIntire coached the girls' basketball at Audubon in 1922 1923 and 1924, his teams were recognized as among "the foremost in Iowa". He was the originator of the short-pass system of play and the style of the game which he introduced was copied widely by coaches everywhere as the game grew.
