In 1900, potato crops were common throughout Iowa, and this plow was designed specifically for potato harvesting. The steel plow dug deep into the ground and turned the soil over, causing the potato crop to surface. Once the plowing was done, the farmer would go back and collect the potatoes sitting on top of the overturned soil. With the help of the potato harvester, potato farmers could cultivate more land and contribute more to the growing agriculture industry.
