This photograph was taken from the northeast corner of the Mount Ayr town square around 1915. The business in the background is Freeland's Department Store, which was owned by Montgomery E. Freeland. The man in the center is using a concrete walkway to cross over the dirt street. Walkways such as this one had curved edges so that wagon wheels could cross over them.
