The town of Benton, Iowa, was established in 1888 with the name Bloomington. The town's name changed to Benton in 1890. The town was located near a Chicago, Kansas City, & St. Paul Railroad railway which connected Des Moines St. Joseph, Missouri. This photograph shows the Benton depot as it appeared in 1910.
