The Mount Ayr Lumber Company opened this lumber yard in January 1910. Three men, I. J. Dalbey, Frank Sheldon and Howard Tedford, co-owned the company, and the lumber yard was managed by Charles Mapel. Some time before 1940, I. J. Dalbey bought out his partners and changed the company's name to Dalbey Lumber Company. I. J. Dalbey died in 1962 and the Country Boys Lumber Company bought the Mount Ayr lumber yard.
