The Ringgold County Jail was built in Mount Ayr, Iowa, in 1896. The jail housed its first prisoner that same year. In 1927, a new courthouse and jail replaced this building, and the American Legion purchased it. The Legion used this building until 1978. The building now houses the law offices of attorney James Pederson.
